X3 Reunion Vs Terran Conflict Vs Albion Prelude

Breakdown X3 Vs X4 for me please. So yea I'd like a breakdown of X3 vs X4 if someone knows I am on the fence of if I should get X4. I own X3 and expansions but I never dived into it. So i've been trying to get into this series, starting from the first, up untill a friend recomended that i just stop and play X3 but the thing i'm wondering is whether i should start from terran conflict, or albion prelude i know that albion has a lot less problems to it, but i don't know if it has a tutorial and how much plot i'll miss out on.also i have no clue about reunion. Note: X³: Albion Prelude will not be compatible with Save Games from X³: Terran Conflict. Available on Steam X³: Albion Prelude will be available December 15th on Steam for direct download in English, German, and French languages (voice) and Italian (text only). If you buy the X: Superbox, or already own it, X³: Albion Prelude will be. X3: Reunion: First X3 game, no reason to play if you have one of the other two X3 games. X3: Terran Conflict: The latest X game (if you forget X Rebirth ever existed). X3: Albion Prelude: Add-on to X3:TC with completely different content and new features. If you want to do a lot of trading, play X3:TC.

I've tried getting into this game several times but I just haven't been able to. Spent hours with the guides but it just didn't help. I think most of the time though, me quitting was due to the interface. I love pretty much any game that deals with space, especially when you get to do what you want and fly around. Just can't get myself to like this game.

Good review though as it's wanting me to install it again lol.

  • Unicorn slot machine free online. First of all I love x3:tc, Its awesome community, the enourmous amount of mods and scripts and the 'easiness' that have allowed to reach this situation is unquestionable.

Now having said this, the game is plagued with bugs and inconsistencies.

And although the amount of time egosoft has spent supporting is commendable, there are still certain game-stopper bugs that will never be fixed.

    AI is still pretty dumb:

    * If you send your destroyer to kill a station, you will most likely see a great amount of 'bullets' or shots go through the station without touching it (in many factories).

    * Some times your destroying will end crashing or getting stuck in the station until one of the two blows up.

    * Don't ever think of flying with AI wingman, they will most likely crash with you or with any other ship. Smaller ships fly around you like an angry nest of waps and can't keep any formation (this is one of the things that worked in X3 and stopped working with X3TC and the X3 + xtended mix they did to the game).

    * Enemies will go directly through you and won't react in time when they receive your shooting, being very easy to kill. sometimes they can't even react and crash with you.

A whole lot of missions have impossible time frames. Some try to explain it saying it is part of the 'Think' aspect of the game, and that could be if you could get the casual impossible mission, but it is not casual, many of them are impossible or with a ridiculously short time frame.

    And so on.

Egosoft work has been impressive. But with X3TC I think they made much more than they could chew.

  • Evil Tactician

Seriously, you should play the game.

But if you really have played or are playing now, a few examples you can easily reproduce.

Get the cheat script by Cycrow.

    * spawn yourself an m6 and hop into it. spawn 1 or 2 M5′s or m4′s as escorts, tell them to follow or protect you. look how the fly, manuver your ship, accelerate and stop, etc., in less than a few minutes at least one of them will crash with you. Free slots for fun with bonus games.

    * Spawn yourself a titan. Spawn a factory of any type. Order the titan to attack it.

    * About the impossible time frame missions. If you are a mission junkie like me you will probable have gotten a mission asking for 20.000 energy cells in 5 minutes and similar.

    Is online blackjack rigged. Cheers

In the ego forums I am ezra-s. Been playing the game since release.

By the way, I haven't mentioned how long egosoft took to 'fix' the slowing over time performance. There are more.

But don't mistunderstand me, I love the game, but after playing it to exhaustion (maybe months of gametime I stopped out of frustration).

  • my bad, my nick in egosoft forums is ezra-r , not ezra-s :P

  • Never had a wingman hit me. Had them hit stations and capitals occasionally, but never me. Never had a capital collide with it's target. Never had a mission that's ‘impossbile' time-frame wise, just requiring a kestrel and a jumpdrive. I agree there are problems, but every game has problems. Saying Ego bit off more than they could chew is a little crazy, especially considering TC is basically built on the same engine as R.

  • Well, if you want any freighter get that amount of ecells and get them to destination in 5 minutes, thats not possible.

If you do have freighters with that amount of e-cells flying around, well it might, btw, which freighters? Maybe my problem is I never tried to full load one with that amounts, so I can't say if it is even possible to fill them with the quantities I have been asked many times. And when I say e-cells I also refer to ridiculous amounts of delexian wheat etc. My point is those missions are not worth to try and most seem impossible, others may think different.

But anyways, I respect all your opinions and I could be wrong (although like I said I played this to death).

There have been tones and tones of threads mentioning the same issues.

About EJ comment, really you haven't played the game ;P (hehehehe, saying a wingman never hit him makes me laugh really, such exagerated is the dumb ai in the game).

And I repeat once again, the game is awesome, I love it, hardly any other game will give you such huge amount of time, just that some basic features are bugged and will never be fixed, like the AI which can't stay in formation and crashes.

  • As for whether I've played it, I've also clocked 100+ hours on steam… and several years before steam. Don't mess with EmperorJon. >:| Your lies shall not be believed!

  • Best way to win on slot machines. Good review.

    yes there are some bugs.
Any game critical bugs are usually worked on by the Devs asap.
eg rig crash bug when doing the BoP plot is being worked on for the 3.1 patch.
other bugs are often used by players for game advantages.
    eg Cloning missiles.

AI is not perfect, but if you can do a better job,do it and show Egosoft how you did it,or release it as a mod or script for the rest of the community to try out.
I have played X games since X2 was released.
TC since version 2.0…and ranked up 9th position in time spent, before I stopped uploading my stats.

  • I thought ‘bullets' going through stations was down to their being a lot of empty space between components ;-)
I've played a lot and seen few bugs. I'm not very good at the game though, especially combat, so I avoid fighting and perhaps most of the game's issues at the same time.

  • The review is too positive … must … say … something … negative … :D

    1) To be honest i mised the cockpit view – this is really annoying (when you can't feel that you're in the spaceship).

    2) Also i missed a tutorial (after x2 i jumped into this one and i had no idea what the controls are)

    3) It kinda gets annoying too, when you can see a 'Black See' on almost every planet's surface. You probably don't have a clue what i'm talking about … so here is some data to have clue http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sea

    4) Limitless antimater again (reactors keep on using it for ever) i hate that becouse it makes no sense.

    5) Plasma weapons again (to fire a plasma ball you must to have some matter that you could turn into plasma) … again you can shoot out 500 cubic meters of matter, when your ship's volume is 10 cubic meters … ( what the …???!)

    6) Unrealistic speeds (i was like … people that live in the year 3000 can't build a spaceship that could go faster than 300 meters per second?!!! Even F-15 Eagle can go faster when it's being affected by friction (and also uses way more primitive and less effective energy source)

    7) Those who played x2 may have noticed that capital ships got way slower (arround 5 to 6 times depending on ship). And if you think that it's mass that matters … so i can tell you too things
(1)mass can affect acceleration but not velocity (with exeption when start talking about 0,5c 0,7c 0,9c or the speed of light itself)
(2)What's the point of building a city size capital ship, when the max personal is arround 10 people ( take a look at hoe many windows it has)

    8) Can't dock at my ship (i tried it only with my terran osaka so i can't be sure about that all ships (M2) can't carry fighters)

    9) It's complicated to equip your capital ship AGAIN … waht i mean is tha you can have 50000000000 of money and buy 10000 of capital ships but the real deal is in equiping them … god this thing is a real time-eater … (but from the possitive angle i managed to annihilate 3 xenon sectors (and then i got bored of doing that) with 3 powerfull weapons 7 medium poer weapond and 6 weak weapons (empcs).

    10) And yeah … combat was too easy when fighting against small ships like M3 … too easy? why? Probably becouse AI's really suck (they are stupid) and i was able to take more than 50% of capital ship's shields with my M3 fighter (well it had EMPCs but still it's way too easy)
But despite all my negative feedback i really liked the variety of everything (except realism, which wasn't included into the game) i also liked colourful graphics and the fact that there are many races and everything … but common this game is only TRADE SPACE SIMULATOR becouse combat here requires no skill … to see what i mean try out evochron mercenary (and select combat pilot role otherwise you will have a transport vessel instead of fighter … and it also will take time to find the fight)

Btw i don't care if you rate this comment at either bad and good score … so don't bother.

  • And about that there are many sectors … believe me – nothing special they are all the same : stations, ships, gates and asteroids.
Of course if you're first time playing it may be interesting to explore the map.

Did any of you know that the Space Suit strafes at about 80m/s? I had to do a resource delivery for the Terrans to raise my rep; it was to deliver about 9000 nrg cells to a station in Mars in about 10-12 mins, paid 2.5mill; so I got the cells into my Caiman Super Frieghter XL, jumped it to asteroid belt, and then accepted the mission. I realised that my caiman was on 60% hull (I still don't know how, I presume ramming), so I flew to it in my kestrel, and proceeded to strafe next to it while repairing it; it was only when it got to about 85% hull when it started to get away from me, so I was quite surprised how fast the spacesuit can go! I was just thinking, does anyone know how fast an Aran can strafe? Because that could be quite useful.. And also, is there any other tips anyone knows about this sort of thing?

All ships have the same strafe speed. The slower the ship, the more noticeable the boost from strafing.

Ahhhh right.. Wait Wait, does this mean that the broadside Brigantine or Akuma is faster going side-ways than it is going forward!?! Wow..

If you're strafing in two direction simultaneously, and using that extra speed to boost your forward velocity, you could get an Akuma to roll at ~130m/s

Even with a Space Suit at 80m/s isnt not exactly going to be out running anything. I personally dont use Strafing in my games, as I feel its abit unfair as the AI cant do it.

True, but when you're flying a capital ship and can pull an extra 80m/s velocity out of the bag, sometimes you just need to
You don't strafe Roguey? :o Damn, man. If I didn't strafe I'd be dead, soooooooo many times over!

Fair? Like using nividium, intelligence, the jumpdrive or the plots? You don't want things to be fair, trust me.

Ooo, 130 for an Akuma? Ouch! I knew about the strafe-boost trick, I just didn't know it had that much of a boost! Wow!
I bet Roguey just pulls normal evasive, or barrel-rolls the heavy damage shots away!
I don't use nvidium, apart from the plot requirements; I'll just get the exact amount that I need..

not sure what you mean by strafe? I know what it means in the military but not sure here please explain Thanks

It's moving sideways or up/down without turning in that direction, it's meant for dodging fire a fine tuning ship placement. I really only use strafing to move my ship a bit closer to other to cap them, or just a general bit of easy movement when flying, I find that sticking the controls on mouse follow mode, moving the mouse slightly to the right/left then rolling can work really well for fire evasion. There isn't a better way out of the two, because they are different, but try it out next time you play, you'll notice that your ship slowly moves in the direction you pressed, but without having to turn to face.

I agree with RandomTank, it's not really 'better', it's just how different people play Personally I use a combination of mouse follow mode and strafe, even throwing a little boresight fire in for fun But if you've not tried it, I highly recommend it, especially if you're flying a capital ship.

I basically only use boresight now, because mouse-follow shooting doesn't use the targeting computer's auto-aim, it just fires exactly where the cursor is.
The only real exception is when i'm firing at a TL, because the auto-aim drags your shots into a place that would miss the ship; it's hard to exlpain, but try it next time (best ship is an elephant) just stick the auto-aim on, and use boresight fire to shoot generally nearby to the assist crosshair, it will shoot in a really weird place..

Yea I got into the habit of doing the same thing. I usually have to abandon boresight when shooting at an M5/M4 with a slower ship. Auto aim never seems to hit those guys, especially when using a weapon with a low projectile speed. As for strafing, I've always used it since Reunion. The AI in AP seems to have gotten a bit better at hitting a strafing target though so I don't feel bad using it because its generally 3v1 or 5v1, I need every advantage I can get.

I think it depends which weapons you're using as well to be honest. PBEs for instance I almost exclusively use boresight fire, but then the high bullet speed and miniscule range allow for it. I've recently started a Terran Defender game in TC, and there's no way I could survive most of the combat without strafe and boresight fire, as I find EMPCs are just too inaccurate.
